Living Off-Campus

The majority of Sonoma State's sophomores, junior, seniors, and graduate students live in the local community. They live in a variety of locations; e.g., Rohnert Park, Cotati, Petaluma, Santa Rosa.

Even though a large percentage of the student body lives off-campus, students are very active with their campus life. While living off campus, students get and stay connected in many ways, such as campus employment, participating in collegiate level athletics or intramural sports, joining a club or Greek sorority or fraternity, academic study groups and clubs, or pursuing leadership opportunities and student government. You will feel more connected to SSU and have a more fulfilling college experience if you get acquainted with Student Involvement,  There are endless opportunities available to SSU students.

Assistance with Finding Housing

Finding the right place or people to live with are equally important when trying to make your college experience positive. REACH provides off-campus housing assistance in a variety of formats.

Information about living off-campus is distributed through our resident newsletters, a resource booklet with local apartment complexes, and an Apartment Availability Listing, updated monthly. We hope you will find our services useful and if you need any additional help please feel free to contact REACH at (707) 664-2541 or email us at

During the Spring, we host an off-campus housing fair for students. This is an opportunity for property managers and landlords to provide information about their properties and makes it an easy way for students to gather off-campus housing materials.

We also have a partnership with "Off-Campus Student Housing 101" to provide an extensive online rental listing and roommate matching service. This rental database allows you to tailor your search to find a rental listing as well as find roommates with similar lifestyles.

Visit Off-Campus Student Housing 101 (OCH101) to get started with looking at what is available and creating your Roommate Finder profile.

Residential Education & Campus Housing has not inspected or approved any off campus listing, nor has it screened or approved prospective tenants. Before entering into a rental agreement and making or accepting payments, we strongly recommend that both parties, the landlord and tenant, meet each other, inspect the property, and exercise due diligence prior to entering into a rental agreement.
