Residential Learning Communities

Residential Learning Communities at Sonoma State University are made up of eight unique living environments that provide an opportunity to deepen the connection between students and something they have in common, including three communities where full-time professors live on campus.  You’ll get more out of your college experience if you join one of these communities: more friendships, more learning, more success.

 

Incoming First Year Students

First Year Students can choose from the following communities:

 RHAs Academic and Career Exploration - ACE offers a community linked to academic departments and programs, providing students the opportunity to live in a close-knit community with peers who have similar majors.  A full-time professor called a “Faculty-in-Residence” lives in this community, further increasing residents’ ability to connect with faculty.

 

 First Generation Students - This community is geared for students parentswho are the first in their family to attend college and who seek an extra layer of support to ensure success during their first year at Sonoma State.

First Year Experience -  FYE offers first year students the opportunity to participate in a year-long class that counts towards graduation where students explore their identities and what challenges face our global society. This is the perfect community for first year students seeking to build intentional relationships with other students, residential staff, peer-student leaders, and faculty. In addition, a full-time professor called a “Faculty-in-Residence” lives in this community.

 

village gamesOutdoor Adventure - Whether you are seeking to explore the outdoors for the first time or already engage with outdoor activities, this community fosters a space for learning, growth, and fun related to the outdoors in an inclusive community. 

 

Unity House: LGBTQIA+ and Gender Inclusive - With Unity House located in two communities, this housing option is great for students interested in the exploration of LGBTQIA+ identities and for those seeking strong community through dialogue, activities, and reflection. Unity Houses are gender inclusive, meaning students are paired with roommates regardless of gender identity and expression.

 

Ra's on grassVisionary. Inspiring. Black. Educated. Students. (VIBES) - The VIBES affinity house welcomes all first time freshmen students who are interested in expanding and exploring consciousness in the area of Black/Pan-African culture. Students will explore their heritage and history while developing a sense of pride and community.

Sophomore and Above

Students who have lived on campus for at least one year or upper division students new to living on campus at Sonoma State are welcome to choose from the following specfic communities:

ra'sSophomore House - Students in their second year at Sonoma State will actively engage in a community where they can further examine their career aspirations, gain leadership skills, develop relationships with resources across campus, and explore their sense of identity as a Seawolf.  A full-time professor called a “Faculty-in-Residence” lives in this community, further increasing residents’ ability to connect with faculty.

Transfer Students

Students transferring to Sonoma State are welcome to consider living on campus.  The following specific communities may be a great fit for you:

Transfer House - The Transfer House has three goals: create a space where students network with peer transfer students, establish connections with campus resources that bolster success, and explore the local North Bay community.
